Welcome to the School of Mathematical Sciences

The School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) and the closely tied Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (IASM) are the two main institutions for mathematics research and education at Zhejiang University. Together, they comprise around 100 faculty members, 300 graduate students, and 700 undergraduate students.

Zhejiang University is one of the major traditional universities in China. As a member of the nation's top-tier university funding programs, it benefits from strong governmental support and is a leading place for higher education in China. Every year, due to its high reputation, it attracts many of the best students from all regions of the country.

The School of Mathematical Sciences emerged from a reorganization of several previous institutes in 1998. Since then, it has grown rapidly and established research groups in several new directions. With ample potential for further growth and development, the School's mission is to provide a thriving environment for top-level research and education in all areas of modern mathematics.
